Sheriff
Lopey is a 33 year veteran of law enforcement. Sheriff Jon Lopey is a
staunch support of veterans of Siskiyou County. Sheriff Lopey recently
retired from the United States Army Reserve as a colonel. He started his
military career during the Viet Nam Era when he served as a Marine
sergeant. Sheriff Lopey later served in the California Army National
Guard and Army Reserve, where he served in military police, infantry,
and civil affairs specialties. Sheriff Lopey served extended tours of
duty in the Republic of the Philippines, Haiti, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and
Iraq during his military career. A combat veteran, Sheriff Lopey
received numerous decorations and awards, including the Combat Action
Badge, Parachute Badge, and three Bronze Star Medals, one with “V”
device. Sheriff Lopey served about 38 years of active and reserve
service with the Armed Forces and belongs to several veterans
organizations such as the Marine Corps League, American Legion, Veterans
of Foreign Wars, Marine Corps Association, and Reserve Officers’
Association.
