Siskiyou Inter-Agency, Law Enforcement Explorer Post 911

Explorers LogoThe Siskiyou County Inter-Agency Explorer Program is sanctioned through the Boy Scouts of America, “Learning for Life” program.   The program is a work site based career education program open to young men and women, 14-20 years old who desire to learn about a career in law enforcement.   The program is developed and supervised by local law enforcement and individuals providing an opportunity for young adults to experience the skills required for a career in law enforcement.   Exploring is based on five areas of emphasis:
  • Career Opportunities: Learning job related skills that may broaden employment opportunities.
  • Life Skills: Experience positive social interaction and develop mental and physical fitness.
  • Citizenship: Participate in Community Service Projects
  • Personal Character: Learn to make ethical and socially responsible choices.
  • Leadership Experience: Acquire leadership skills and traits as assigned POST officers

The benefits Explorers receive:

Law Enforcement Training:

Training includes many of the same type of classes offered at the Basic Academies.  Law Enforcement History, Criminal Justice System, Radio Procedures, Patrol Procedures, Investigations, Crime Prevention, Accident Investigation, Fingerprinting & Classification, Arrest & Search Techniques, First Aid & CPR, Crisis Intervention, Traffic Stops, and Defensive Tactic

Ride-a-longs: 

After completing training requirements Explorers are eligible to ride-a-long with patrol deputies and officers from agencies in Siskiyou County.  Explorers will gain experiential knowledge of the patrol functions and policing procedures. 

Community Service:

Participate in various community service activities; traffic control, children’s fingerprinting, school programs, mentors for other youth, bicycle safety rodeos, youth camps, NRA Eddie Eagle gun safety program, and the Mt. Shasta Ski and Board Registration.

Competitions:

Explorers occasionally participate in competitions with other Explorer Post, demonstrating their abilities in training scenarios.  These competitions encourage the development of friendships and experiences. 

Bi-Monthly Meetings:

We are currently seeking new members from the areas of Weed, Mt. Shasta, and Dunsmuir to expand our membership. Pending interest we would like to have 2 meetings a month in Mt. Shasta.
